Job Title: Program Specialist – Migrant Recruiter

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The job of Program Specialist – Migrant Recruiter is to identify and recruit migrant children by visiting farms and community organizations; enlisting migrant parental involvement in students’ educational programs and school site activities; providing translations or written materials and verbal exchanges to migrant families; providing support services to migrant families; and facilitating positive migrant parent, school and student relationships. This position does not supervise any employees. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent or designee.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Visits nurseries, farms and community agencies to identify and recruit migrant families and children in the Forest Grove School District boundaries.
  • Assesses family and student needs for the purpose of developing a migrant action plan to meet the specific needs of migrant students and families.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of required records and reports to be in compliance with the state and federal migrant education program guidelines (e.g. program participation, progress, referrals, etc.) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation.
  • Orients students and families for the purpose of establishing familiarity with the migrant program, services, and required processes.
  • Participates in workshops, meetings, community events, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or presenting information.
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent required; 72 quarter hours of accredited college or equivalent education preferred.

 

ExperiencePrior job related experiences with migrant families or at risk populations; paid or volunteer.

 

SkillsBilingual in English and Spanish languages. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and able to communicate with parents, students, staff and community. Use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and perform basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations. Excellent organization skills. Able to operate a computer, office machines, telephone and other technology equipment. Excellent computer skills, including use of Office Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google programs.

 

KnowledgeKnowledge of variances in hispanic cultures.

 

AbilitiesWork harmoniously with others. Work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job. Work independently without supervision, and with minimum oral/written instructions. Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of all family interactions and student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and  policies. Ability to problem solve. Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, moving to various locations within the classroom and school. Ability to drive a personal motor vehicle.

 

Continuing Education/Training ClearancesPre-employment criminal justice fingerprint clearance and criminal background check. Valid Oregon Driver’s License.
