Job Title: Instructional Assistant- 21st Century Community Learning Center
(CLC) Grant - Extended Day
POSITION SUMMARY
The job of Instructional Assistant- 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) Grant - Extended Day is done for the purpose of assisting the CCLC Site Coordinator and CCLC Director with fulfilling 21st CCLC grant requirements by performing program clerical tasks, such as record keeping and computer data entry; maintaining and monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and ensuring programing follows the scheduled activities. This position reports to the the CLC Director or designee. Employees in this classification do not supervise others.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direct instructional assistance to students under the supervision of the Project Coordinator or licensed staff for the purpose of implementing instruction.
- Implements (under the supervision of the licensed staff) instructional programs and enrichment and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting staff in improving students’ social, emotional and academic success through a defined course of study.
- Monitors students during assigned clubs and classes within a variety of school environments (i.e. restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
- Communicates verbally and in writing with the transportation company regarding student routes, behavior, parent questions and final communication when routes are completed
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (i.e. schedules, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the advisor, teacher, administrator and/or coordinator in providing necessary records/materials.
- Provides verbal feedback and/or written documentation for the purpose of informing advisors, teachers, parents and/or students of students’ progress.
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Administers first aid as may be required for the purpose of providing for immediate care.
- Participates in recruiting and interviewing possible tutors/advisors
- Monitors and coordinates student’s needs in specific content support using data from synergy.
- Conducts volunteer orientation as outlined in CCLC volunteer electronic binder.
- Monitors and coordinates attendance with clubs and classes.
- Participates in recruiting and interviewing possible volunteers.
- Attends CCLC conferences as required by the Oregon Department of Education.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent; 72 quarter hours of accredited college or equivalent education or passing score on Work Keys Test and/or or a passing score on a state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
Experience: Prior job related experience paid or volunteer with school age children in a school setting.
Skills: Bilingual in English and Spanish. Operate a computer, office machines, telephone and other technology equipment. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Type with accuracy; use word processing program on computer. Excellent organization skills. Skills to perform instructional activities, communicate with parents, students, staff and community, basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and perform basic clerical functions,
Knowledge: Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes. Knowledge in English, spelling, mathematics.
Abilities: Work harmoniously with others. Work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job. Become familiar with school procedures and procedures relating to student supervision. Able to use appropriate teaching methods and present curriculum materials to students. Work independently without supervision, and with minimum oral/written instructions. Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies. Ability to rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, moving to various locations within the classroom and school. Able to monitor halls and supervise students outdoors while loading and unloading buses and on the playground during recess. Move to various locations within a classroom setting
Continuing Education/Training Clearances: First Aid/CPR Certification. Pre-employment criminal justice fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
